A lifelong artist from an artistic family, I have studied with renowned watercolorists Rex Brandt, Frank Webb, and Milford Zornes — but learned much of what I know about painting and design from my dad, Ronald E. Bean (1907-1999). I majored in Art at the University of Iowa and have taken instruction locally in Northern California in figure drawing, painting, caricature and cartooning, and graphic design. In 2002 I set aside my paints and brushes and took up digital photography. Mmm . . . Photoshop . . . I used to participate in the Italian Street Painting Festival in downtown San Rafael. You can see some results at my old Web site. I also provide graphic design services, most recently (until I retired!) for the California courts. Fascinating factoid about the artist: I have color synesthesia — every letter and number has a certain color. Not only does that inform my art and graphic design work, but it comes in pretty handy when spelling names and remembering phone numbers. A pretty good explanation can be found here. |
